Youth Programming
Vladikavkaz One of the main goals of this committee is to begin exchanges in the arts, and we hope some of our youth can participate in this developing program. San Cristóbal Work has begun to develop more formal connections between Escuela Primaria Manuel Castellanos, en elementary school, and Asheville Catholic School. Rainbow Mountain School sent their Spanish teacher, Rachael Hampf and two students, Tina Stadere and Aiden Whitney-Johnson, as part of the recent delegation to this city and we certainly hope to be able to host students here from this community in the near future. Additional schools visited by the recent delegation from Asheville included Escuela Primaria Josefa Ortiz and Escuela Primaria Viente Novembre. Saumur Asheville Sister Cities is close to beginning a student exchange program between Asheville High School and the Duplessis-Mornay public high school in Saumur. Asheville High French teacher Will Stanhope and Duplessis-Mornay English teacher Catherine Menard are working closely together to plan dates for this first exchange, to take place either fall 2006 or spring 2007. The plan will be for Asheville to send a small group of upper level French students for approximately ten days to two weeks where they will be home hosted and will shadow students there. Additional field trips and sightseeing will also be part of the plan. The focus of the youth committee will be to assist Asheville High School wherever possible with the logistics of the exchange and to continue to look for sources of funding to help send students to Saumur. |
